In this study, imidazolium functionalized poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was synthesized by acetalization and direct quaternization reaction. Afterwards, composite anion exchange membranes based on imidazolium‐ and quaternary ammonium‐ functionalized PVA were used for direct methanol alkaline fuel cell applications. 1H NMR and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy data indicated that imidazole functionalized PVA was successfully synthesized. Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry data demonstrated that the imidazolium structure was efficiently obtained by direct quaternization of the imidazole group. Composite anion exchange membranes were fabricated by application of the functionalized PVA solution on the surface of porous polycarbonate (PC) membranes. Fuel cell related properties of all prepared membranes were investigated systematically. The imidazolium functionalized composite membrane (PVA‐Im/PC) exhibited higher ionic conductivity (7.8 mS cm?1 at 30 °C) despite a lower water uptake and ion exchange capacity value compared to that of quaternary ammonium. In addition, PVA‐Im/PC showed the lowest methanol permeation rate and the highest membrane selectivity as well as high alkaline and oxidative stability. Dynamic mechanical analysis results reveal that both composite membranes were mechanically resistant up to 107 Pa at 140 °C. The superior performance of imidazolium functionalized PVA composite membrane compared to quaternary ammonium functionalized membrane makes it a promising candidate for direct methanol alkaline fuel cell applications. © 2020 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

South Korea is pushing for the waste-to-hydrogen (W2H) project to reduce greenhouse gases and utilize plastic and vinyl waste (PVW) while reducing environmental pollution from PVW. This research seeks to estimate additional willingness to pay (WTP) for electricity produced using W2H over that produced using traditional power sources, such as coal and nuclear. For the purpose of the estimation, a contingent valuation survey of 1000 people was performed employing the closed-ended one-and-one-half-bound question during November 2020. A spike model is utilized to reflect zero WTP values that a number of interviewees reported in the survey. Several factors affecting the additional WTP were also analyzed to derive implications. The average WTP was computed as KRW 27.7 (USD 0.025) per kWh with statistical significance, which reaches 26.4% of the electricity price. One more point to note is that 54.3% of the respondents stated a zero WTP as they thought that W2H is of no value to them or were worried that the W2H project could increase electricity bills. 相似文献

Homo‐ and copolymers of vinyl esters including vinyl acetate (VAc) and vinyl benzoate (VBz) were synthesized via the reverse iodine transfer radical polymerization technique. Polymerization was carried out in the presence of iodine as the in situ generator of the transfer agent and 2,2′‐azobis(isobutyronitrile) as the initiator at 70 °C. Reverse iodine transfer radical homopolymerization of VAc and VBz led to conversions of 76 and 57%, number‐average molecular weights of 8266 and 9814 g mol?1 and molecular weight distributions of 1.58 and 1.49, respectively. The microstructure of the synthesized polymers was investigated in detail using gel permeation chromatography, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and distortionless enhancement of polarization transfer (135° decoupler pulse) techniques. Relatively narrow molecular weight distribution and controlled and predictable trend of molecular weight versus conversion were observed for the synthesized polymers, showing that reverse iodine transfer radical homo‐ and copolymerization of VAc and VBz proceeded with controlled characteristics. Results of molecular weight and its distribution along with the 1H NMR spectra recorded for homo‐ and copolymers indicated that side reactions can occur during the course of polymerization with a significant contribution when VAc, even in a small amount, was present in the reaction mixture. This can result in polymer chains with aldehyde dead end and broadening of the molecular weight distribution. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献

Graphene oxide (GO) was covalently functionalized with poly(4‐vinyl pyridine) (P4VP) by atom transfer radical polymerization for drug delivery and antimicrobial applications. The physiochemical properties, chemical structure, composition and morphology of the P4VP‐functionalized GO (GO‐P4VP) were studied. Simple physisorption of a cancer drug, camptothecin (CPT), via π ? π stacking and/or hydrophobic interactions on the GO‐P4VP was tested for drug loading and its release by altering the pH. The GO‐P4VP has low cytotoxicity, and the CPT‐loaded GO‐P4VP exhibited a high potency for killing cancer cells in vitro. Prominent antimicrobial properties against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus were also observed. Thus, the GO‐P4VP can be utilized as a drug delivery vector with high biocompatibility, solubility and stability in physiological solutions, a suitable payload capacity and excellent bacterial toxicity. Owing to its small size, low cost, large specific area, ready scalability and useful non‐covalent interactions, GO‐P4VP is a novel material for biomedical, industrial and environmental applications. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry 相似文献
